Ice fishing plus one more day in Levi
One ice fishing trip is a good taste, and two days let you settle into it. You can pair a short trip with the long snowmobile safari, run them in either order, or keep one fishing day and spend the other on something faster. This guide sets out the pairings and roughly what they cost.
Why two days work better than one
A single trip teaches you the basics and ends just as you feel at home on the ice. With a short first trip and a longer second one, you arrive on day two already knowing how to drill a hole and hold the rod.
Two days also give the weather a second chance. If a cold snap or an operator change spoils one day, the other still holds, which our guide to deep-cold days recommends planning for anyway.
Day one, a short trip to learn the basics
Start with one of the three trips by minivan or car, which last 2.5–3.5 hours. You learn the routine on the ice and still have most of the day free afterwards.
- Keo Wilderness from ~$99, 2.5 hours with hot salmon soup and a heated wooden shelter for groups of up to 8
- Safartica's trip by car from ~$122, 2.5 hours by warm car with a full set of winter clothing lent, for up to 20 people
- Beyond Arctic from ~$117, 3.5 hours, a campfire with hot drinks and snacks plus a few photos from the guide, up to 8
All three drive you to the lake, so nobody needs a driver's licence on day one. The snowmobile or minivan guide explains what that changes on the way out.
The two cheapest options sit close in price, so choose by comfort. Keo's heated shelter and soup suit anyone who chills fast, while Safartica's car trip suits travellers who packed light and want every layer lent to them.
A gentle first day on the ice
Safartica's 2.5-hour trip by car lends full winter clothing and fishing gear, and pours hot drinks by a forest lake before driving you back to Levi.
Day two, the long snowmobile safari
With the basics behind you, Safartica's five-hour snowmobile safari (~$234) makes a fuller second day. You ride along frozen waters to a wilderness spot, and the guide cooks Lappish soup on an open fire.
Your catch, if there is one, can go into the soup, as the listing puts it. Nobody can promise a fish, though. Our guide to what bites under the ice explains why an empty line is part of the sport.
Two people share one sled and take turns, and whoever drives needs a driver's licence. Children under 12 cannot join this trip, so families should read the section on other pairings.

Or run it the other way round
Some people prefer to start big. The safari shows you a wide, open landscape on the first day, and a short car trip later lets you fish quietly without the long ride.
That order suits anyone arriving with a free day and leaving on a busier one. Kittilä airport is about 15 km (9 miles) from Levi, and a 2.5-hour trip fits around a departure more easily than a five-hour safari.
Ice fishing plus something faster
A second fishing trip is not for everyone. Many visitors pair one ice fishing day with a husky ride or a longer snowmobile safari booked separately. The fishing then becomes the slow, quiet half of the stay.
If you go that way, choose the fishing trip by what the other day lacks. After a fast day on a sled, a warm car to a forest lake and soup in a heated shelter balance things well.
Families with younger children should skip the five-hour safari. Our guide to ice fishing with kids sorts the trips by how well they suit small anglers.
What the two days cost
Each pairing below adds a short trip to the snowmobile safari. All prices are per person and from the listings, so a couple pays twice the sum.
| Pairing | Day one | Day two | Time on tour |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keo Wilderness, then the safari | ~$99 | ~$234 | About 7.5 hours |
| Safartica by car, then the safari | ~$122 | ~$234 | About 7.5 hours |
| Beyond Arctic, then the safari | ~$117 | ~$234 | About 8.5 hours |
Our price guide adds the extras such as tips and the safari's pickup, which must be requested at least 48 hours ahead. Pickup on the safari covers a radius of about 10 km (6 miles) from Levi.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before applies to all five tours on both sites. Booking both days early costs nothing extra and helps in the busy weeks around Christmas and New Year, when trips fill first.
Spare hours in Levi village
The fishing trips leave free time on both days. Levi is a compact ski resort below the rounded Levitunturi fell. Its slopes and village restaurants sit within easy reach of the meeting points.
Use the evening between the two days to dry your kit. Damp gloves and boots make the second day colder than the first, and our clothing guide lists what to pack.
Eat a proper meal before each trip, too. A full stomach helps the body make heat, and only some of the tours serve food, as our guide to lunch on the ice sets out.
The time of winter you come changes the light more than the fishing. Our guide to the best time to book covers polar night and the long bright days of late winter.
